Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

This book came out of nowhere and captivated me from start to finish! It's being referred to as the literary equivalent to crack; I couldn't agree more. You will be instantly drawn to the romantic, OK sexual tension between Abby and Travis along with their beautifully unique friendship. Opposites attract??? Well maybe Abby and Travis aren't so opposite after all. They're both absolutely insane with some pretty serious issues, but that's what makes them so perfect for each other. Their relationship is so beautifully imperfect it adds a very real element to the story.

I completely fell in love with Travis' rough exterior which overlays his devoted need to protect Abby. He is not your typical romantic hero, but a hero none the less. Did I mention I love his brothers too?

This entire book is a roller coaster ride. It will frustrate you to your limit one moment, have you laughing out loud in the next (Cafeteria scene = "SATISFACTION"). In the end it will drop you to your knees with romance. I didn't want the book to end.

A beautifully unique story with beautiful characters, beautiful dialogue, beautiful romance, A BEAUTIFUL DISASTER!!!

Fine...go back and count how many times I used the word beautiful and its variations in my review. It was kind of the obvious choice ;-)

(Please note that some websites are categorizing this book as YA fiction; it's definitely more adult. The story takes place in college and has some strong sexual content and language. More for the mature reader)
