Review: Providence by Jamie McGuire

In the old world shadows of Providence, Rhode Island, Nina Grey finds herself the center of a war between Hell and Earth.

Struggling with her father’s recent death, Nina meets Jared Ryel by chance…or so she believes. Although his stunning good looks and mysterious talents are a welcome distraction, it soon becomes clear that Jared knows more about Nina than even her friends at Brown University. When questions outnumber answers, Jared risks everything to keep the woman he was born to save—by sharing the secret he was sworn to protect.

When her father’s former associates begin following her in the dark, Nina learns that her father is not the man she thought he was, but a thief who stole from demons. Searching for the truth behind her father’s death, Nina stumbles upon something she never expected—something Hell wants—and only she holds the key.

Though this book is completely opposite from Beautiful Disaster, the beautifully talented writing is exactly the same. Who needs vampires and werewolves when you have an extremely hot half angel bodyguard who is unconditionally in love with you and completely devoted to keeping you safe (even though it does make Jared appear to be a little bit whipped at times). I fell in love with this book from the start. One of the things I liked most was that it took place in college which is very rare for a book these days. The romance between Jared and Nina is very intense and becomes that way very quickly. However, Jamie McGuire makes it work. The unique plot kept me interested from start to finish and I loved the way she linked the human side of being a bodyguard with the angelic responsibilities. With the risk of overusing the word love...You will love the characters, you will love the story, you will love the romance, you WILL love this book!

  1. I did love this book ! ! ! You need to read the second book if you have not already; Requiem. Also if you enjoy her writing (which I do) you have to read Beautiful Disaster, which made my top five books of 2011. Of course the top five were like all tied at first place. I LOVE HER BOOKS! Happy Reading!
