Review: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Jennifer Armentrout...I really think I may be in love with you. Seriously, I'm about as straight as they come, but after reading Obsidian and immediately following it up with Half-Blood!!! I heart you! Where have you been all my life??? I'm gagged and bound to the band-wagon attached to the Jennifer L. Armentrout train and I love it!!! What a ride.

Now let me take a running head start and jump on my insanely large soap-box. To all you readers giving the book hell about copying Vampire Academy, consider this a cyber kick in the face!!! YES...there are some plot similarities/concepts especially in the beginning, but they are far from the same. In fact, the author does an amazing job creating a unique and fasinating world surrounded by greek mythology, a kick-ass heroine, a romance to die for, and a heart warming BFF! I love everything about this book. So what if she used some of the BROAD concepts of VA? Last time I checked, I loved that series too. So why wouldn't I want a book that pulled some of the very things I loved about Vampire Academy to use it to create a whole new and exciting book that has original concepts and a fresh drop you down to your knees thank you Jesus romance? Hmmmmmm. Its like saying that every book that has a vampire/human romance is copying Twilight. If you like VA, you'll like Half-Blood. Hell, if you like books you'll like Half-Blood. TEAM JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT!!!
