The Blurb
Severine Blake has seen far too many friends taken down in the crossfires of dating. She devises a precise course of action to protect her heart. The plan is working very well...until she meets Thayer and Macsen.
When the Sloan brothers come into her life, nothing is the same.

Thayer is self-possessed, arrogant and used to getting what he wants. Being near him leaves Severine unsteady and shaken. He makes her question everything.
Macsen contradicts his brother in every way. His calm personality captivates her. Severine is drawn to him instantly.
But Severine quickly discovers that when you want something, that want can turn wicked. Giving in is not always easy, especially when your heart refuses to give up the fight.

What little illusion of love Severine has is soon destroyed. Every option is broken, and the protection she has built around her heart instantly crumbles.

There's just no right way with the Sloan brothers.

My Review
One for the Three Star Hall of Fame...

I'm conflicted with loving a book, but not really caring for the writing style. I enjoyed the story...a lot, but my issues are purely with execution. The first half was a struggle for me; mainly the dialogue. It didn't feel like natural conversation and every now and then someone would say something that didn't seem to fit with the conversation at hand. The author had some beautiful things to say and is obviously very intelligent. However, it sometimes came across as her trying too hard to sound like a writer instead of just letting herself be a writer. Sometimes it's better to let a story speak for itself instead of trying to dress it up too much. I think these things will come with experience.

No matter what I felt about the execution though, this new author has earned my respect. There is only one reason I'll get down on my knees, but now there's two. It's to bow down to Calia Read for doing something that only one other author, in the history of all of time, has ever been able to do. YOU MADE ME SWITCH TEAMS! No, not that team...I am still very much pro penis, but she caused me to jump from one stick to the next.

I was instantly drawn to Macsen from the start. However, I could totally tell that Severine was drawn to Thayer and I felt like that was the direction the author was going too. I don't do love triangles and I don't switch teams! I was setting myself up to be violated with disappointment, but then Thayer happened...he happened all over me. If you would have told me that I'd end up Team Thayer, I would have bullshit sneezed my skepticism all over your face. But here I am, riding the Thayer train.

I also loved how the ending wasn't a cliffhanger either. It gave us closure for this story, but at the same time it teased us with something more...making us want more. If I was just rating the second half of the book it would be 4 stars easy, maybe more. Calia Read brought something new and unique to the table and when deciding whether or not to grab this book, you need to ask yourself one very important question, "Do I want to sleep with Macsen or Thayer...or both?"

No seriously, if you can look past the packaging (and I don't mean the kickass cover) and see what lies inside then yes...you'll very much enjoy this book and me personally, I'll be reaching for the sequel. For sure!!! READ ON!

What others are saying...

"God this was a great book!. I just loved the characters, the story, the dialogue, the situations, everything! I love how it started and I love how it ended."

"Smart and sexy, sophisticated and intriguing..."

"It's been a very long time since I've been completely confused and at a total loss of what to actually say in my review."

"I struggled through the first half and then loved the second half."

Where to find it...
