NEW REVIEW: Transcendence by Shay Savage

Transcendence by Shay Savage
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Release Date: February 14th, 2014

It’s said that women and men are from two different planets when it comes to communication, but how can they overcome the obstacles of prehistoric times when one of them simply doesn’t have the ability to comprehend language?

Ehd’s a caveman living on his own in a harsh wilderness. He’s strong and intelligent, but completely alone. When he finds a beautiful young woman in his pit trap, it’s obvious to him that she is meant to be his mate. He doesn’t know where she came from; she’s wearing some pretty odd clothing, and she makes a lot of noises with her mouth that give him a headache. Still, he’s determined to fulfill his purpose in life – provide for her, protect her, and put a baby in her.

Elizabeth doesn’t know where she is or exactly how she got there. She’s confused and distressed by her predicament, and there’s a caveman hauling her back to his cavehome. She’s not at all interested in Ehd’s primitive advances, and she just can’t seem to get him to listen. No matter what she tries, getting her point across to this primitive, but beautiful, man is a constant – and often hilarious – struggle.

With only each other for company, they must rely on one another to fight the dangers of the wild and prepare for the winter months. As they struggle to coexist, theirs becomes a love story that transcends language and time.

The original alpha....

It's no surprise that I was immediately drawn to this book due to the unusual nature of the synopsis. A synopsis that immediately made me stop and stare. Stare and contemplate. How in the hell is Shay Savage going to pull this off? Can it be pulled off? Curiosity....piqued.

Curiosity is what drove me to read Transcendence. Curiosity and a craving for something original. Originality is what stole my heart.

Ingeniously written, and creatively done. I. Was. Impressed.

Shay Savage not only delivered a heart dropping romance, but managed to develop two characters from one POV. Doing this, without words!! Without conversation. All from the eyes and thoughts of a caveman. And it worked. It was perfect.

At first, I was a little put off by some of the phrase repetition. Yes, I get that Ehd thinks his "mate is strange" and sex is synonymous for "put a baby in her", but must he say this over and over...and over again? The answer....YES! I had to remind myself that he is a caveman, simple. Did I really expect him to say, "Damn that b**ch is weird" or "Maybe tonight she'll let me f**k her from behind." His words are his words, and I learned acceptance. He earned acceptance!

That acceptance was earned because of the captivating evolution of Ehd. The simplicity of a man that evolved emotionally, sexually. You wholefully experience the growth and development of a person, a relationship, and ultimately an epic love.

I look down at her closely, making sure she is not actually hurt, and run my nose over hers so she knows I will care for her. I'm tired and my muscles are sore, but Beh comes first.

His devotion and duty was undeniably arousing, but when you see that devotion transcend into love your emotions become overwhelmed.

Despite her oddities, she is without a doubt perfect in every way that matters to me.

I'll admit that close to midway, the pace faltered briefly and I became a little impatient, but it picked up and the story seemed to come alive again. I was also left with some unanswered questions, a few points of confusion, and felt the ending transpired a little too quickly. But at the same time, the rapid passage of time allowed us more time with Beh and Ehd. I'm also a little indifferent about the explanation of Beh, but I guess she had to come from somewhere.

Just thinking back on this book though, so many things put a smile on my face and flood my heart with emotion. I giggle every time I think of "Hoh" and still laugh non stop at...

It's big, but it's not that big.

I can't put a baby in there!

My heart aches just thinking about the epilogue. It brought me to the realization of how much these characters actually touched me. How their love invaded my heart. All this, because Shay Savage allowed me to become part of their world. Part of their love, and their love...

Their love was transcendent!
